Morning Cuppa Joy for June 6, 2011

"Never try to be better than someone else. Learn from others, and try to be the best you can be. Success is the by-product of that preparation." Coach John Wooden
Good morning and Happy Monday.
This is our last morning focusing on the 3C's, or characteristics, of Peak Performing teams. These 3C's were developed over a twenty year period spent studying, coaching and training with some of the best teams in the world. They are Care, Commitment and Competency! Today we tackle the last characteristic of winning teams - competency.
You have joined a team of men and women you care about and you are deeply committed to the team's mission. The last step in developing a Peak Performing team is to ensure every member possess an extremely high level of competency in their leadership, team building, and mission-specific skill sets. I don't care if you are the team's Chief Financial Officer or explosives expert... whatever your specialized role is within the team, you must be the best at it! Peak Performing team members never stop training, and never rely on yesterday's tools and accomplishments. They drive achievement and consistently stay at the forefront of their field of expertise. In addition to perfecting job specific skills, every member of a winning team understands their role as a team leader and they take personal responsibility for managing and improving the relationship dynamics of the teams!
What does world class competency look like? It looks like 10,000 hours of training honing the skills necessary to meet your mission-specific requirements and lead your team to victory. Take a good look at the teams you are currently a member of; how do you rate your team's level of care towards the well-being and success of each and every member. Is each member of your team totally on-board, committed and doing everything in their power to drive the ball across the goal line? How high are your team's functional, leadership, and team building competencies?
And the last and most important question in today's Cuppa Joy - - what are you doing every day to make yourself and your team better?
You might considering making the ABC's of Peak Performers your team's training manual. Few tools will help accelerate your teams performance as quickly and get everyone rowing the boat and rowing hard!
On behalf of your team at Bill Poett Performance Group, we have a brand new week ahead of us and let's use the power of our teams to make it a great one!!
Yours In Joy,
Coach Poett
